Forgery Help in Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon?

Is there a way to get your forgery up in rune factory, i've tried combinations on some sites like the Luck Blade and i put in the correct materials but it still says Combination Failed, i think i know why it says that but i cant get my forgery level up because its at 0 and the lowest one you can make is the Long Sword which you need level 3 Forgery to make (i think) so could anyone tell me how you get your forgery up from level 1?
