Why do I hear frogs at night?

Everynight for the past week I heard frogs croaking before I went to sleep. Are they really frogs? And where do they come from? Right now there are alot of pretty big puddles in my backyard from all the rain we had. I'm pretty sure that are not tree frogs, since I don't think there are any in Wisconsin . Please help explain this to me.
